[Ab] Resumo:Herein, a mesoporous nanoplate multi-directional assembled Bi WO architecture was successfully prepared and applied for the photocatalytic removal of NOx pollutants at low concentrations under visible light and simulated solar light irradiation. Bi WO -180-C synthesized at a hydrothermal temperature of 180 °C with calcination exhibited an excellent conversion efficiency in the photocatalytic oxidation of gaseous NO. The crystallinity, morphology, specific surface area, pore environment, light absorption, and separation of photogenerated electrons and holes were investigated by various techniques; the excellent photocatalytic performance of Bi WO -180-C was attributed to its special hierarchical mesoporous structure with an appropriate pore size and interconnected porous network, which imparted good gas permeability and fast mass transfer of reaction intermediates and final products of NO oxidation. Furthermore, hierarchical mesoporous Bi WO showed excellent photocatalytic durability and reusability.

[Ab] Resumo:Molecular rotors with an off-center axis and the chiral feature of achiral CuPc molecules on a semi-metallic Bi(111) surface have been investigated by means of a scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at liquid nitrogen (LN2) temperature. The rotation axis of each CuPc molecular rotor is located at the end of a phthalocyanine group. As molecular coverage increases, the CuPc molecules are self-assembled into various nanoclusters and finally into two-dimensional (2D) domains, in which each CuPc molecule exhibits an apparent chiral feature. Such chiral features of the CuPc molecules can be attributed to the combined effect of asymmetric charge transfer between the CuPc and Bi(111) substrate, and the intermolecular van der Waals interactions.

[Ab] Resumo:Ferric uptake regulator (Fur) of Helicobacter pylori is a global regulator that is important for bacterial colonization and survival within the gastric mucosa. H. pylori Fur (HpFur) is unique in its ability to regulate gene expression in both metal-bound (holo-Fur) and metal-free (apo-Fur) forms. Bismuth-based drugs are widely used for the treatment of H. pylori infection. However, the mechanism of action of bismuth drug was not fully understood. Recently, it has been reported that bismuth drugs could interfere with the bacterial ferric uptake pathway and inhibit bacterial growth, implying intrinsic correlation between bismuth drug and bacterial iron metabolism. Herein, we demonstrate that Bi(III) binds to HpFur protein specifically at the physiologically important S1 site, which further leads to protein oligomerization and loss of DNA binding capability. The targeting of HpFur by bismuth drugs significantly reduced transcription levels of its regulated genes, which are crucial for bacterial physiology and metabolism. Our studies present direct evidence that perturbation of iron metabolism in H. pylori by bismuth might serve as one of the mechanisms for the antimicrobial activity of bismuth drugs.

[Ab] Resumo:INTRODUCTION: The eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection represents a clinical challenge. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of quadruple therapy with esomeprazole plus a 3-in-1 capsule containing bismuth subcitrate, metronidazole and tetracycline, plus probiotics in patients diagnosed with H. pylori infection in routine clinical practice. METHODS: A prospective, interventional, single-centre and open-label study in consecutive patients with a confirmed indication for eradication of H. pylori infection. Patients were treated with three capsules of Pylera four times a day (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner), plus 40mg of esomeprazole twice daily for 10 days (30min before breakfast and dinner) and probiotics for 30 days. Eradication of H. pylori infection was confirmed by labelled urea breath test performed at least 28 days after the end of treatment. RESULTS: A total of 100 patients were consecutively enrolled. Twenty-five patients (25.0%) had a prior history of treatment for their H. pylori infection. In the intention-to-treat population, eradication rates were 90.7% (68/75) and 80.0% (20/25) in patients treated with Pylera as the first line or as rescue therapy, respectively. Eighteen patients (18%) had at least one adverse event, most of which (89%) were mild. CONCLUSION: Ten days of treatment with a quadruple regimen of bismuth, metronidazole and tetracycline plus esomeprazole and probiotics is an effective and safe strategy in patients with H. pylori infection.

[Ab] Resumo:Surface junctions between BiOBr and BiVO were synthesized. The BiOBr/BiVO with 1wt.% of BiOBr exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity in the degradation of RhB under visible-light irradiation. It was found that the highly efficient adsorption of RhB molecules via the electrostatic attraction between Br and cationic N(Et) group played a key role for the high photocatalytic activities of BiOBr/BiVO . This efficient adsorption promoted the N-deethylation of RhB and thus accelerated the photocatalytic degradation of RhB. Moreover, the metal-to-metal charge transfer (MMCT) mechanism was proposed, which revealed the concrete path paved with Bi-O-Bi chains for the carrier migration in BiOBr/BiVO . The interaction between photoexcited RhB* and the Bi in BiVO provided the driving force for the migration of photo-generated carriers along the Bi-O-Bi chains. This work has not only demonstrated the important role of efficient adsorption in the photocatalytic degradation of organic contaminants, but also developed a facile strategy to improve the efficiency of photocatalysts.

[Ab] Resumo:A series of La/Ce-codoped Bi O composite photocatalysts were fabricated via hydrothermal-calcination process. The as-prepared products were intensively characterized by some physicochemical characterizations like N physical adsorption, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance (UV-Vis DRS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoelectrochemical measurements, and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The characterization results indicated that La and Ce doping induced obvious crystal phase transformation in Bi O , from monoclinic to tetragonal phase. La and Ce codoping also gave rise to the obvious synergetic effects, e.g., the lattice contraction of Bi O , the decrease of crystal size and the increase of surface area. The photocatalytic performance of the prepared catalysts was evaluated by removal of dye acid orange II with high concentration under visible light irradiation. Results showed that La/Ce-codoped Bi O displayed much higher photocatalytic performance than that of bare Bi O , single La or Ce doped Bi O samples. The superior photocatalytic activity was mainly attributed to the improved texture and surface properties and the synergistic effects of La and Ce codoping on suppressing the recombination of photo-generated electrons (e ) and holes (h ).

[Ab] Resumo:Objective: To evaluate solubility, dimensional stability, filling ability and volumetric change of root-end filling materials using conventional tests and new Micro-CT-based methods. Material and Methods: 7. Results: The results suggested correlated or complementary data between the proposed tests. At 7 days, BIO showed higher solubility and at 30 days, showed higher volumetric change in comparison with MTA (p<0.05). With regard to volumetric change, the tested materials were similar (p>0.05) at 7 days. At 30 days, they presented similar solubility. BIO and MTA showed higher dimensional stability than ZOE (p<0.05). ZOE and BIO showed higher filling ability (p<0.05). Conclusions: ZOE presented a higher dimensional change, and BIO had greater solubility after 7 days. BIO presented filling ability and dimensional stability, but greater volumetric change than MTA after 30 days. Micro-CT can provide important data on the physicochemical properties of materials complementing conventional tests.

[Ab] Resumo:Novel organobismuth(III) complex of 5H-dibenzo[c,f][1,5]oxabismocin-12(7H)-yl nitrate (C2) was synthesized and characterized by spectral and elemental analysis. It was compared with other five C,E,C-chelating (E = N, O, S) organobismuth(III) complexes against human adenocarcinoma alveolar basal epithelial cells (A549), human liver cancer cell line (SMCC7721), human gastric cancer cell line (SGC-7901), human colon adenocarcinoma cell line (SW480) and healthy human bronchial cell line (16HBE14o-) in vitro. It was found that C2 exhibited the best anticancer activity. Further mechanistic investigation indicated that toxicological activity of C2 was ascribable to apoptosis rather than anti-proliferative activity. Apoptosis was induced through up-regulating the level of Bcl-2/Bax as well as the activation of caspase-3. The results demonstrate that heterocyclic organobismuth(III) complexes of this type have great potential in the treatment of cancer.

[Ab] Resumo:The toxicity of lead present in organohalide perovskites and the hazardous solvent systems used for their synthesis hinder the deployment of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, an environmentally friendly route toward bismuth-based, lead-free (CH NH ) Bi I perovskites that utilize ethanol as the solvent is described. Using this method, dense and homogeneous microstructures were obtained, compared to the porous, rough microstructures obtained using dimethylformamide. Photovoltaic performances were enhanced, with an open-circuit voltage of 0.84 V measured.

[Ab] Resumo:BACKGROUND: Due to increasing antimicrobial resistance, a bismuth-based quadruple regimen has been recommended as an alternative first-line therapy for Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) eradication. However, different results are varied greatly and the availability of bismuth was limited in some countries. We assessed the efficacy and safety of 14-day berberine-containing quadruple therapy as an alternative regimen for H pylori eradication. METHODS: In a randomized, open-label, non-inferiority, phase IV trial between November 25, 2014, and October 15, 2015, 612 treatment-naive patients were randomly assigned to 14-day berberine-containing (n = 308) or 14-day bismuth-containing (n = 304) quadruple therapy. The primary outcomes were eradication rates determined by the C urea breath test (C-UBT) 28 days after the end of treatment. The secondary outcomes were adverse events and compliance. RESULTS: The baseline demographic data including age, gender, body mass index (BMI), general condition and severity score were not statistically different in both groups. The eradication rates in bismuth and berberine groups were 86.4% (266/308) and 90.1% (274/304) in intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis (P = .149), and 89.6% (266/297) and 91.3% (273/299) in per-protocol (PP) analysis (P = .470), respectively. No statistically significant difference was found in the overall incidence of adverse events between both groups (35.7% vs 28.6%, P = .060). CONCLUSIONS: Both regimens achieved the recommended efficacy for H pylori eradication. The berberine-containing quadruple regimen was not inferior to bismuth-containing quadruple regimen and can be recommended as an alternative regimen for H pylori eradication in the local region.
