[Ab] Resumo:Avulsion of the permanent teeth is one of the most serious forms of traumatic dental injuries, which endangers the patients' quality of life. Therefore, the fast and proper treatment is crucial. In this case report we will discuss the supportive and definitive functional treatment and correct rehabilitation. The traumatic force can cause complex oral and maxillofacial injuries, which comprehensive treatment constitutes a major challenge for the dentist. Here we review functional restoration of dental injuries and their definitive aesthetic solution. Orv Hetil. 2017; 158(33): 1314-1318.

[Ab] Resumo:BACKGROUND: Inflammatory external root resorption is one of the possible complications of replantation of an avulsed tooth. Several studies have shown that limited FOV CBCT is an efficient diagnostic support and in treatment planning of these cases in paediatric patients because of its high resolution combined with low radiation doses. The recent literature has suggested that Biodentine is an effective material for resolution of inflammatory root resorption. CASE REPORT: This article describes the successful therapy of a replanted tooth affected by inflammatory root resorption. In the present case, a CBCT exam was performed to detect the extent of the damage, and the canal was filled with Biodentine in the apical third. At present, the threated tooth is asymptomatic, and the twelve months follow-up examination showed healing of periradicular hard tissues.

[Ab] Resumo:BACKGROUND: Severe damage to the tooth, periodontal ligament, and pulpal tissue often occurs with intrusive luxation, and outcomes are quite unpredictable because of the variable ways in which the injury may occur, which influences both the choice of treatment and prognosis. CASE REPORT: This case presents a novel method for the management of an intruded permanent maxillary central incisor with an immature apex. At first, watchful waiting for spontaneous re-eruption was the chosen treatment option. A palatal gingivectomy was performed and endodontic access was established, following which, an intracanal medicament of calcium hydroxide was applied. A root canal treatment was completed, and apexification with mineral trioxide aggregate was performed. Re-eruption failed to reach completion, so complete repositioning was performed with the aid of orthodontics for two months. CONCLUSION: The present case illustrates the partial re-eruption of a severely intruded immature permanent tooth with the use of interim medication in the root canal. This case also shows complete re-eruption with the aid of timely orthodontic repositioning after apexification.

[Ab] Resumo:AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To assess working and trainee nurses' knowledge and awareness regarding the emergency handling of traumatic injuries to the teeth. The research was conducted in four different parts of Karnataka, a state in India. BACKGROUND: Traumatic injuries to teeth and the facial region are common among children and young adults. Most traumatic dental injuries can be avoided, or would be less serious, if an extensive knowledge and awareness of these injuries existed, especially among people who frequently come across them. DESIGN: The study is a cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey conducted among nurses of Karnataka. METHODS: The questionnaire was given to nurses in different parts of Karnataka, India. Six hundred and two nurses completed a 15-item questionnaire, assessing their knowledge and practices in the management of traumatic injuries to the teeth. RESULTS: Most of the nurses knew that an avulsed tooth can be replaced in the socket and approximately 70% knew mouthguards and other protective measures are available. The nurses' knowledge was, however, inadequate given their exposure to emergency cases and this was borne out by the fact that the study subjects reported that they require still more adequate training in emergency handling of dental injuries. CONCLUSION: This study reveals that nurses in the current study have less knowledge than expected. Sufficient training should be provided, not only to doctors and dentists in emergency departments, but also to paramedical technicians and nurses to ensure proper care and appropriate advice is available to parents of children experiencing dental trauma. Hence, this study recommends an extensive health education programme in this field. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: As nurses play a vital role in the emergency dental services provided to patients, the importance of dental injury and its emergency management must be included in their curriculum.

[Ti] Título:Dragon's Blood Sap (Croton Lechleri) As Storage Medium For Avulsed Teeth: In Vitro Study Of Cell Viability.

[Ab] Resumo:Tooth replantation success depends on the condition of cementum periodontal ligament after tooth avulsion; which is influenced by storage medium. The dragon's blood (Croton lechleri) sap has been suggested as a promising medium because it supports collagen formation and exhibits healing, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of dragon's blood sap as a storage medium for avulsed teeth through evaluation of functional and metabolic cell viability. This in vitro study compared the efficacy of different storage media to maintain the viability of human peripheral blood mononuclear and periodontal ligament cells. A 10% dragon's blood sap was tested while PBS was selected as its control. Ultra pasteurized whole milk was used for comparison as a commonly used storage medium. DMEM and distilled water were the positive and negative controls, respectively. The viability was assessed through trypan blue exclusion test and colorimetric MTT assay after 1, 3, 6, 10 and 24 h of incubation. The dragon's blood sap showed promising results due to its considerable maintenance of cell viability. For trypan blue test, the dragon's blood sap was similar to milk (p<0.05) and both presented the highest viability values. For MTT, the dragon's blood sap showed better results than all storage media, even better than milk (p<0.05). It was concluded that the dragon's blood sap was as effective as milk, the gold standard for storage medium. The experimental sap preserved the membrane of all cells and the functional viability of periodontal ligament cells.

[Ab] Resumo:Traumatic injuries to the primary dentition present special problems and the management is often different as compared with the permanent dentition. The International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) has developed a consensus statement after a review of the dental literature and group discussions. Experienced researchers and clinicians from various specialities were included in the task group. In cases where the data did not appear conclusive, recommendations were based on the consensus opinion or majority decision of the task group. Finally, the IADT board members were giving their opinion and approval. The primary goal of these guidelines is to delineate an approach for the immediate or urgent care for management of primary teeth injuries. The IADT cannot and does not guarantee favorable outcomes from strict adherence to the guidelines, but believe that their application can maximize the chances of a positive outcome.
