[Ab] Resumo:The Schiff base H L [N,N'-ethylenebis(3-methoxysalicylaldimine)] or H L [N,N'-ethylenebis(3-ethoxysalicylaldimine)] was reacted with MCl ·xH O and SnCl ·5H O to afford the supramolecular heterobimetallic systems (H ED) ·2[ML]·[SnCl ] [M = Cu, L = L (1), L = L (2); M = Ni, L = L (3), L = L (4); ED = 1,2-ethylenediamine], whose structures were established by single crystal X-ray analyses. Each structure includes different entities, viz. a mononuclear [CuL]/[NiL] neutral complex (coformer), a hexachlorostannate dianion [SnCl ] , a 1,2-ethylenediammonium dication (H ED ) and, only in 2 and 4, a methanol molecule. Based on the work of Grothe et al. (Cryst. Growth Des., 2016, 16, 3237-3243), compounds 1 and 3 are cocrystal salts, 2 and 4 are cocrystal salt solvates. The ionic pairs (H ED) ·[SnCl ] in 1-4 are encapsulated by the Cu- or Ni-complexes, and stabilized by N-HO and one N-HCl bond interactions leading to infinite 1D chains. The antimicrobial studies of 1-4 against yeasts (C. albicans and S. cerevisiae) and Gram-positive (S. aureus and E. faecalis) and -negative bacteria (P. aeruginosa and E. coli) indicate that the Ni Sn systems (3 and 4) are more active than the analogous Cu Sn ones (1 and 2).

[Ab] Resumo:The Baeyer-Villiger oxidation is a key transformation for sustainable chemical synthesis, especially when H O and solid materials are employed as oxidant and catalyst, respectively. 4-substituted cycloketones, which are readily available from renewables, present excellent platforms for Baeyer-Villiger upgrading. Such substrates exhibit substantially higher levels of activity and produce lactones at higher levels of lactone selectivity at all values of substrate conversion, relative to non-substituted cyclohexanone. For 4-isopropyl cyclohexanone, which is readily available from ß-pinene, continuous upgrading was evaluated in a plug-flow reactor. Excellent selectivity (85 % at 65 % conversion), stability, and productivity were observed over 56 h, with over 1000 turnovers (mol product per mol Sn) being achieved with no loss of activity. A maximum space-time yield that was almost twice that for non-substituted cyclohexanone was also obtained for this substrate [1173 vs. 607 g(product) kg(catalyst) cm h ]. The lactone produced is also shown to be of suitable quality for ring opening polymerization. In addition to demonstrating the viability of the Sn-ß/H O system to produce renewable lactone monomers suitable for polymer applications, the substituted alkyl cyclohexanones studied also help to elucidate steric, electronic, and thermodynamic elements of this transformation in greater detail than previously achieved.

[Ab] Resumo:The aim of this study was to develop a simple and fast ultrasound-assisted ionic liquid dispersive liquid-liquid phase microextraction (UA-IL-DLLME) method for preconcetration of trace antimony and tin in beverage samples. The novelty of this study was based on the application of ligandless UA-IL-DLLME using low-density ionic liquid and organic solvents for preconcentration of Sb and Sn. The concentration of Sb and Sn were quantified using ICP-OES. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration graph was found to be LOQ-250µgL (r =0.9987) for Sb and LOQ-350µgL for Sn. The LOD and LOQ of Sb and Sn ranged from 1.2to 2.5ngL and 4.0 to 8.3ngL , respectively, with high preconcentration factors. The precisions (%RSD) of the proposed method ranged from 2.1% to 2.5% and 3.9% to 4.7% for Sb and Sn, respectively. The proposed method was successfully applied for determination of Sb and Sn in beverages.

[Ab] Resumo:Bimetallic Sn-Pb catalysts with five different Sn/Pb atomic ratios were electrodeposited on Teflonated carbon paper and non-Teflonated carbon cloth using both fluoroborate- and oxide-containing deposition media to produce catalysts for the electrochemical reduction of CO (ERC) to formate (HCOO ). The interaction between catalyst composition, morphology, substrate, and deposition media was investigated by using cyclic voltammetry and constant potential electrolysis at -2.0 V versus Ag/AgCl for 2 h in 0.5 m KHCO . The catalysts were analyzed before and after electrolysis by using SEM and XRD to determine the mechanisms of Faradaic efficiency loss and degradation. Catalysts that are mainly Sn with 15-35 at % Pb generated Faradaic efficiencies up to 95 % with a stable performance. However, pure Sn catalysts showed high initial stage formate production rates but experienced an extensive (up to 30 %) decrease of the Faradaic efficiency. The XRD results demonstrated the presence of polycrystalline SnO after electrolysis using Sn-Pb catalysts with 35 at % Pb and its absence in the case of pure Sn. It is proposed that the presence of Pb (15-35 at %) in mainly Sn catalysts stabilized SnO , which is responsible for the enhanced Faradaic efficiency and catalytic durability in the ERC.

[Ab] Resumo:The Sn-based perovskite solar cells (PSCs) provide the possibility of swapping the Pb element toward developing toxic-free PSCs. Here, we innovatively employed a molecular self-assembly approach to obtain a series CH NH Pb Sn I (0≤x≤1) perovskite thin films with full coverage. The optimized planar CH NH Pb Sn I PSC with inverted structure was consequently realized with a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) over 14 %, which displayed a stabilized power output (SPO) over 12 % within 200 s at 0.6 V forward bias. Afterward, we investigated the factors that limited the efficiency improvement of hybrid Sn-Pb PSCs, and analyzed the possible reason of the hysteresis effect occurred even in the inverted structure cell. Particularly, the oxidation of hybrid Sn-Pb perovskite thin film was demonstrated to be the main reason that limited its further efficiency improvement. The imbalance of charge transport was intensified, which was associated with the increased hole defect-state density and decreased electron defect-state density after Sn was introduced. This study helps tackle the intractable issue regarding the toxic Pb in perovskite devices and is a step forward toward realizing lead-free PSCs with high stability and efficiency.

[Ab] Resumo:The future role of biomass-derived chemicals relies on the formation of diverse functional monomers in high yields from carbohydrates. Recently, it has become clear that a series of α-hydroxy acids, esters, and lactones can be formed from carbohydrates in alcohol and water solvents using tin-containing catalysts such as Sn-Beta. These compounds are potential building blocks for polyesters bearing additional olefin and alcohol functionalities. An NMR approach was used to identify, quantify, and optimize the formation of these building blocks in the Sn-Beta-catalyzed transformation of abundant carbohydrates. Record yields of the target molecules can be achieved by obstructing competing reactions through solvent selection.

[Ab] Resumo:Nanocrystalline Sr Ba SnO (x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1) perovskite photocatalysts were prepared by microwave synthesis in an ionic liquid (IL) and subsequent heat-treatment. The influence of the Sr/Ba substitution on the structure, crystallization, morphology, and photocatalytic efficiency was investigated and the samples were fully characterized. On the basis of X-ray diffraction results, as the Ba content in the SrSnO lattice increases, a symmetry increase was observed from the orthorhombic perovskite structure for SrSnO to the cubic BaSnO structure. The analysis of the sample morphology by SEM reveals that the Sr Ba SnO samples favor the formation of nanorods (500 nm-5 µm in diameter and several micrometers long). The photophysical properties were examined by UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The band gap decreases from 3.85 to 3.19 eV with increasing Ba content. Furthermore, the photocatalytic properties were evaluated for the hydroxylation of terephthalic acid (TA). The order of the activities for TA hydroxylation was Sr Ba SnO >SrSnO >BaSnO >Sr Ba SnO >Sr Ba SnO . The highest photocatalytic activity was observed for Sr Ba SnO , and this can be attributed to the synergistic impacts of the modification of the crystal structure and morphology, the relatively large surface area associated with the small crystallite size, and the suitable band gap and band-edge position.

[Ab] Resumo:A microwave-induced plasma optical emission spectrometer with N -based plasma was combined with a multimode sample introduction system (MSIS) for hydride generation (HG) and multielemental determination of As, Bi, Ge, Sb, and Sn in samples of forage, bovine liver, powdered milk, agricultural gypsum, rice, and mineral fertilizer, using a single condition of prereduction and reduction. The accuracy of the developed analytical method was evaluated using certified reference materials of water and mineral fertilizer, and recoveries ranged from 95 to 106%. Addition and recovery experiments were carried out, and the recoveries varied from 85 to 117% for all samples evaluated. The limits of detection for As, Bi, Ge, Sb, and Sn were 0.46, 0.09, 0.19, 0.46, and 5.2 µg/L, respectively, for liquid samples, and 0.18, 0.04, 0.08, 0.19, and 2.1 mg/kg, respectively, for solid samples. The method proposed offers a simple, fast, multielemental, and robust alternative for successful determination of all five analytes in agricultural samples with low operational cost without compromising analytical performance.

[Ab] Resumo:The objective of this work was to determine levels of inorganic contaminants in 30 samples of five commercial brands of canned tuna, acquired on the local market in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, in the year of 2015. Total mercury and methylmercury (MeHg+) were determined by atomic absorption with thermal decomposition and amalgamation; and cadmium, lead, and tin were determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. Results indicated that 20% of the tuna samples surpassed limits determined by the Brazilian and European Commission legislation for cadmium; for lead, the maximum value found was 59 µg kg and tin was not detected in any samples. The maximum values found for total Hg and MeHg+ were 261 and 258 µg kg , respectively. As from the results obtained, it was estimated that the consumption of four cans per week (540 g) of tuna canned in water could surpass the provisional tolerable monthly intake for MeHg by 100%.
