[Ab] Resumo:In the Irkutsk region there are recorded high indices of rates of morbidity, disability, mortality rate of the working-age population and low levels of life expectancy of the population, that is confirmed by ranking position levels among the all subjects of the Russian Federation. According to all mentioned indices of health the region is inside the top ten unfavorable regions of Russia. In relation to the problem in the state of health of the adult population the estimation of the causal relationships between environmental factors and certain health indices is actual. The list of studiedfactors included health indices that characterize the harmful working conditions of the working population and basic socioeconomic indices in the region. Estimation of causal-relationship relationships was performed with the use of methods of multivariate analysis - correlation and multiple linear regression. In the selection offactors for the construction of mathematical models of multiple regression there were used methods of the analysis of variables variability, pair correlation coefficients matrix and sequential switching covariates to eliminate the problems of multicollinearity, pre-standardization of indices for the elevation of the numerical stability of regression analysis algorithm. As a result of the execution of the analysis there were constructed statistical models for the dependence in the system variables "environment - public health", which allowed to identify the most informative regression models for the adult population health according to indices of primary disability of the population, the mortality rate and life expectancy of the working age population. According to results of the analysis there were identified priority factors affecting on the health of the adult population of the Irkutsk region. To these factors there are referred the proportion of workplaces failing to meet sanitary standards for vibration and 8 socio-economic indices of living standards of the population.

[Ab] Resumo:There are considered features of disorders of the immune response in chronic exposure to dust aerosols. The detected changes of indices of the immune status of employees of the dust dangerous occupations and patients with chronic dust pathology of the lungs were unidirectional in the character, which is probably caused by manifestations of nonspecific response of the immune system to the dust factor. The deterioration of cellular immunity, humoral immunity and cytokine profile predisposes to the occurrence of immunopathologic states, contributing to the development of caused by both worksite and occupation pathology.

[Ab] Resumo:There was made an evaluation of the functional state of peripheral blood neutrophils in 230 workers with dustbreathing risks (mine, metallurgical and machine-building works). There was noted the change in the responsiveness of neutrophils in dependence on both composition and the intensity of the exposure of industrial aerosols to the human body. There was followed the relation between the pathology of the respiratory system with the biochemical changes of granulocytes. These data can be used for the assessment of the nonspecific body resistance in the development of dust lung diseases.

[Ab] Resumo:Cytogenetic homeostasis ofathletes involved in hand-to-hand armyfighting, depending on the outcome of the fight and the level of aggressiveness has been studied. Status of the genetic apparatus in athletes was evaluated in buccal epithelium with the use of micronucleus test, which is widely usedfor the determination of the influence of various factors on the genetic stability of the organism. Psychological testing of athletes was executed with the use of Spielberger's State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory scale, Bass-Darky questionnaire for the diagnostics of aggression and hostile reactions, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire test for the evaluation ofpsychic conditions and method of U.P. Ilyin and P.A. Kovalev for the identification of the propensity to conflictness and aggressiveness (positive and negative) as the personal characteristics. The place taken by the athlete on the competition was shown to have an impact on the frequency of buccal epithelium cells with nuclear abnormalities (micronuclei, perinuclear vacuoles, notches, protrusions "tongue" and "broken egg"). Losers have nuclear aberrations more than winners. At that in athletes with higher aggressiveness and its attendant psychological characteristics the influence of the outcome of the competition on the number of cells with aberrations core is more pronounced.

[Ab] Resumo:To test the effect of mobile phones (MP) of various radiation intensities on the functional state of the brain in children and adolescents, a sham-controlled EEG-study was conducted in a group of thirteen 6-13 years old children, including eight 6-10 years old children. The study showed that a 3-minute exposure to the MP causes the significant decline in alpha-band absolute power, which depends on the radiation intensity and the user's age. Different from sham, an EEG-effect of MP with the energy flux density (EFD) about 100 mW/cm2 was registered both in total, and in a younger (6-10 yr) group. Its bilateral character, more prominent in the hemisphere that is ipsilateral to MP, indicates that this intensity of the radiation influences not only the superficial cortical areas of the ipsilateral hemisphere, but also the deep structures of the brain. MP with the EFD less than 1 mW/cm2 differed from sham by EEG-effect only in the group of children who are 6-10 years old. Its local, ipsilateral character indicates to the superficial influence of such intensity of the radiation on the cortex of the ipsilateral hemisphere. The results show that for the regulation of MP-radiation it's necessary to consider age features of the brain's response. The high significance of the EFD, as an index in the assessment of the impact of MP on the EEG of children, is shown. Since almost all schoolchildren are the users of mobile phones, the situation with the valuation of MP-effects on children of various ages, requires hygienic solution.

[Ab] Resumo:Childhood neglect is associated with risk behaviors in adolescence, including substance use. There is evidence that internalizing behaviors may serve as a mechanism linking childhood neglect and substance use; however, further research is needed to examine this developmental pathway. According to developmental and ecological approaches, the neighborhood context and the developmental timing of maltreatment should both be considered when examining the sequelae of childhood neglect. Hence, the present study uses a longitudinal sample of youth (N = 965, 49.1% female, 59.2% African-American) to examine the influence of timing in the relationship between childhood neglect and adolescent psychopathology, and to examine the indirect effects of child neglect on substance use via internalizing symptoms in adolescence. Furthermore, the role of neighborhood disorder in this indirect effect was tested. Five data collection time points were used: Time 1(M = 4.557, SD = .701), Time 2 (M = 6.422, SD = .518), Time 3 (M = 12.370, SD = .443), Time 4 (M = 14.359, SD = .452), and Time 5 (M = 16.316, SD = .615). The findings showed that internalizing problems mediated the link between the severity of neglect in early childhood and adolescent substance use, and this pathway was moderated by neighborhood disorder. These results have implications for preventative interventions aimed toward reducing substance use for at-risk adolescents.

[Ab] Resumo:OBJECTIVE: Many studies have investigated cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) monoamine metabolite levels in depressive disorders. However, their clinical significance is still unclear. We tried to determine whether CSF monoamine metabolite levels could be a state-dependent marker for major depressive disorder (MDD) based on analyses stratified by clinical variables in a relatively large sample. METHODS: Subjects were 75 patients with MDD according to DSM-IV criteria and 87 healthy controls, matched for age, sex, and ethnicity (Japanese). They were recruited between May 2010 and November 2013. We measured homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylethyleneglycol (MHPG) in CSF samples by high-performance liquid chromatography. We analyzed the relationships of the metabolite levels with age, sex, diagnosis, psychotropic medication use, and depression severity. RESULTS: There was a weak positive correlation between age and 5-HIAA levels in controls (ρ = 0.26, P < .016) and a similar trend in patients, while sex was unrelated to any metabolite. All monoamine metabolites in moderately to severely depressed patients (17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale score > 12) were significantly lower than those in controls (P < .0005 for all 3 metabolites). We found that antidepressants decreased the levels of 5-HIAA (ρ = -0.39, P < .001) and MHPG (ρ = -0.49, P < .0001) and that antipsychotics increased levels of HVA (ρ = 0.24, P < .05). There was a strong correlation between HVA and 5-HIAA levels (controls: ρ = 0.79, P = .000001; MDD: ρ = 0.66, P = .000001). HVA levels (ρ = -0.43, P < .001) and 5-HIAA levels (ρ = -0.23, P < .05), but not MHPG levels (ρ = -0.18, P > .1), were related to depression severity. CONCLUSIONS: CSF 5-HIAA and HVA levels could be state-dependent markers in MDD patients. Since 5-HIAA levels greatly decrease with the use of antidepressants, HVA levels might be more useful in the clinical setting.

[Ab] Resumo:The genus Sarcohyla is composed by 24 species endemic to México. Despite the large number of phylogenetic studies focusing on the family Hylidae, the relationships among the species of Sarcohyla are still poorly known, and the scarce numbers of specimens and tissue samples available for some of the species has hampered an appropriate phylogenetic analysis. We present the most comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study of Sarcohyla to date. We included 17 species of the genus Sarcohyla using data from two mitochondrial (ND1 and 12S) and three nuclear genes (Rag-1, Rhod, and POMc). We performed phylogenetic analyses using Bayesian inference, and the absence of conflicts with strong support between the separate gene trees indicates that incomplete lineage sorting and/or introgressive hybridization are negligible. A coalescent-based species-tree analysis of the four independent loci (three nuclear genes+mtDNA) mostly supports the same species-level relationships as the analysis of the concatenated data. By including new samples from additional species and localities, we find that: (1) the widely distributed species S. bistincta is a complex of at least three species, (2) another undescribed species exists in the group, (3) the species S. ephemera is not valid and it corresponds to a junior synonym of S. calthula. In addition, we conducted marginal likelihood estimation and used Bayes factors to test alternative species delimitation models for S. bistincta, the most widespread nominal species in the group. Our findings support three independent lineages of S. bistincta group, which are paraphyletic with respect to S. pentheter and S. calthula.

[Ab] Resumo:The Long-billed Tailorbird (Artisornis moreaui), one of Africa's rarest birds, has a strikingly disjunct distribution, the origin of which has long puzzled biogeographers. One small population (subspecies moreaui) occurs in sub-montane forest in the East Usambara Mountains, a sky island near the coast of northern Tanzania, and another (subspecies sousae) on Serra Jeci in northwestern Mozambique, 950km away. The African Tailorbird, the putative sister-species of Long-billed Tailorbird, also occurs in the East Usambara Mountains and on Serra Jeci, but in addition occupies all the Eastern Arc Mountain forests between these disjunct sites. Stuart (1981) hypothesized that the two tailorbird distributions could be explained by strong ecological competition, with African Tailorbird populations having eliminated Long-billed Tailorbird populations via competitive exclusion in montane forests between the East Usambara and Serra Jeci. If such competitive exclusion explains these geographic distributions, the co-occurrence of the two species in the East Usambara and at Serra Jeci may be ephemeral, with the status of Long-billed Tailorbird especially in doubt. We sought to (1) determine whether the two species of African tailorbirds are indeed sister-species, and (2) test predictions from Stuart's (1981) competitive exclusion hypothesis using genetic data. Phylogenetic analyses of our seven gene dataset (3 mtDNA, 4 introns; 4784bp) indeed place these two species together in the genus Artisornis. Instead of finding shallow divergence among African Tailorbird populations and deep divergence between Long-billed Tailorbird populations as expected from Stuart's hypothesis, we recover deep genetic divergence and geographic structure among populations of both tailorbird species. This result is consistent with long-term co-existence of the two species at East Usambara and Serra Jeci. Observational data from both the East Usambara and Serra Jeci suggest that the two species have diverged in use of forest canopy strata. From a conservation standpoint, our results suggest that extinction of the Long-billed Tailorbird as a function of competition with African Tailorbird is highly unlikely, and should not be viewed as imminent. Threats to its survival are instead anthropogenic, and conservation measures should take this into account. Finally, our empirical results suggest that mis-specification of the branch-length prior in Bayesian analyses of mitochondrial DNA data can have a profound effect on the overall tree-length (sum of branch-lengths), whereas the topology and support values tend to remain more stable. In contrast, mis-specification of the branch-length prior had a lesser impact on all aspects of the nuclear-only DNA analyses. This problem may be exacerbated when mitochondrial and nuclear DNA analyses are combined in a total evidence approach.

[Ab] Resumo:For the first time the impact of odorous emissions from the enterprise for the production of chewing gum on the cytogenetic status of children, residing in the distance of 0,9 and 6 km, was studied. Specific weak mint and fruity odour in the air in the placement of the enterprise may be related to the presence of menthol, menthone, pinene, limonene, ethyl acetate and other compounds containing in the emissions. There were no differences in cytogenetic status of children in both groups (by frequency of micronuclei, protrusions, binucleated cells, apoptosis).
