[Ab] Resumo:The transition to a new stage of the development - the information society is an objective reality and has an influence on all areas of the activity of the society, including the establishment of a child as an object of the hygienic research. In conditions of the general informatization of the society, the appearance of so-called "clip thinking," explains the maladjustment of educational technologies to mechanisms of children ' and teenagers 'perception and is confirmed by the growth of the school pathology and the gain in the morbidity rate. In the investigation on the example of the educational institutions of Irkutsk it was executed the evaluation of the impact of the intensification of informatization of education and personal development. For the investigation there were formed 2 groups ofpreschools with different levels of informatization in the same preschool institution of the central district of the city of Irkutsk but in different periods of time. In total there were observed 211 children aged of 5.5 to 6.5 years. For the study the influence of the intensification (and informatization of training there were formed 2 groups of small schoolchildren with different levels of intensification (and informatization) of education. The total number of cases accountedfor 465 children aged of 7-9 years. There were suggested methodical approaches to the estimation of the health status of the children, with taking into account the inevitable influence offactors of informatization and the intensification of education. The performed investigations have allowed to reveal the following tendencies in the shaping of the psychophysical state of health and development of children: an increase of level of informatization of education and personal and accomplishment; intensification of learning working; reduction of the attention level; imagination and visual divergence; capability to the linear differentiation and construction of inferences; fear to fail to meet the expectations of surrounding people and low resistance to stress; the increase speed of data processing along with fall in quality; the gain in hyperactivity.

[Ab] Resumo:AIM: Suicide from depression is the second leading cause of death in young people. To better understand depression, a concept analysis was conducted using the Lorraine Walker and Kay Avant method. SOURCE OF DATA: Three electronic databases searched using keywords such as depress*, stigma, and feeling depressed yielded 40 articles in English from 2006 through 2016. RESULTS: Primary attribute was depressed mood; stress was the primary antecedent found in young people. Consequences included health, emotional, and financial well-being. CONCLUSION: A better understanding of depression by healthcare providers can foster quicker assessment and treatment in young people and impact final outcome-suicide.

Second, the health status of their spouse moderates the relationship between their housework performance and perceived happiness.

[Ab] Resumo:BACKGROUND: Medical students face numerous stressors during their clinical years, including difficult clinical events. Fostering resilience is a promising way to mitigate negative effects of stressors, prevent burnout, and help students thrive after difficult experiences. However, little is known about medical student resilience. OBJECTIVE: To characterize medical student resilience and responses to difficult clinical events during clinical training. DESIGN: Sixty-two third-year (MS3) and 55 fourth-year (MS4) University of Chicago medical students completed surveys in 2016 assessing resilience (Connor Davidson Resilience Scale, CD-RISC 10), symptoms of burnout, need for resilience training, and responses to difficult clinical events. RESULTS: Medical student mean resilience was lower than in a general population sample. Resilience was higher in males, MS4s, those without burnout symptoms, and students who felt able to cope with difficult clinical events. When students experienced difficult events in the clinical setting, the majority identified poor team dynamics among the most stressful, and agreed their wellbeing was affected by difficult clinical events. A majority also would prefer to discuss these events with their team later that day. Students discussed events with peers more than with attendings or residents. Students comfortable discussing stress and burnout with peers had higher resilience. Most students believed resilience training would be helpful and most beneficial during MS3 year. CONCLUSIONS: Clinical medical student resilience was lower than in the general population but higher in MS4s and students reporting no burnout. Students had some insight into their resilience and most thought resilience training would be helpful. Students discussed difficult clinical events most often with peers. More curricula promoting medical student resilience are needed.

[Ab] Resumo:BACKGROUND: Besides the expected warm and joyful thoughts, a new mother can be disturbed by sudden frightening thoughts or images of harm done to her baby: harming intrusions, an obsessive phenomenon. Its high prevalence and possible consequences in functioning and in mother-child bonding makes it desirable that clinicians are well informed regarding the current state of knowledge about harming intrusions. OBJECTIVE: To provide a comprehensive review of all studies that have investigated harming intrusions in postpartum women. DATA SOURCES: A systematic search was performed for primary (MEDLINE, PsycINFO) and secondary (Cochrane Library, National Guideline Clearinghouse, American Psychiatric Association) literature, with data range from inception to April 2015. To provide a complete overview, the approach of the topic by Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms and keywords was broad. STUDY SELECTION: Studies in Dutch or English with a clear description of method, covering 1 of our main domains of interest-prevalence, assessment, differential diagnosis, etiology, consequences, and treatment-were selected. DATA EXTRACTION: Two authors extracted quantitative and qualitative data fitting in the domains of interest. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Fifty articles were included. The prevalence of harming intrusions is up to 100% in both women with and without psychiatric disorders. Stress and cognitive misinterpretation are important keys in its appearance and severity. Literature consistently states that isolated harming intrusions contain no increased risk of violence; instead, compulsive behavior is very common. Psychoeducation is found to release a lot of distress; so might cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychotropic medications.

[Ab] Resumo:PURPOSE: The aims of this study were to construct a hypothetical structural model which explains premenstrual coping in university students and to test the fitness with collected data. METHODS: Participants were 206 unmarried women university students from 3 universities in A and B cities. Data were collected from March 29 until April 30, 2016 using self-report structured questionnaires and were analyzed using IBM SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 18.0. RESULTS: Physiological factor was identified as a significant predictor of premenstrual syndrome (t=6.45, p<.001). This model explained 22.1% of the variance in premenstrual syndrome. Psychological factors (t=-2.49, p=.013) and premenstrual syndrome (t=8.17, p<.001) were identified as significant predictors of premenstrual coping. Also this model explained 30.9% of the variance in premenstrual coping in university students. A physiological factors directly influenced premenstrual syndrome (ß=.41, p=.012). Premenstrual syndrome (ß=.55, p=.005) and physiological factor (ß=.23, p=.015) had significant total effects on premenstrual coping. Physiological factor did not have a direct influence on premenstrual coping, but indirectly affected it (ß=.22, p=.007). Psychological factors did not have an indirect or total effect on premenstrual coping, but directly affected it (ß=-.17, p=.036). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that strategies to control physiological factors such as menstrual pain should be helpful to improve premenstrual syndrome symptoms. When developing a program to improve premenstrual coping ability and quality of menstrual related health, it is important to consider psychological factors including perceived stress and menstrual attitude and premenstrual syndrome.

[Ab] Resumo:PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parental stress, social support, and coping behavior on burnout among mothers caring for children with cerebral palsy. METHODS: Participants in this cross-sectional, descriptive study were 185 mothers who completed a self-report structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and multiple linear regression analyses with IBM SPSS Win 22 program. RESULTS: Parental stress and coping behavior were strong predictors of burnout among mothers of children with cerebral palsy. These variables explained 50.0% of the variance in burnout. Social support was not a predictor of burnout. A higher level of burnout was associated with higher levels of parental stress and lower levels of social support and coping behavior. CONCLUSION: Mothers of children with cerebral palsy are vulnerable to burnout. These results show that effective strategies for reducing parental stress and improving positive coping behavior are needed to reduce burnout in these mothers.

[Ab] Resumo:The ability to administer systemically high doses of manganese as contrast agent while circumventing its toxicity is of particular interest for exploratory MRI studies of the brain. Administering low doses either repeatedly or continuously over time has been shown to enable the acquisition of satisfactory MRI images of the mouse brain without apparent side effects. Here we have systematically compared the obtained MRI contrast and recorded potential systemic side effects such as stress response and muscle strength impairment in relation to the achieved contrast. We show in mice that administering MnCl via osmotic infusion pumps allows for a side-effect free delivery of a high cumulative dose of manganese chloride (480mg/kg bodyweight in 8 days). High contrast in MRI was achieved while we did not observe the weight loss or distress seen in other studies where mice received manganese via fractionated intraperitoneal injections of lower doses of manganese. As the normal daily conduct of the mice was not affected, this new manganese delivery method might be of particular use to study brain activity over several days. This may facilitate the phenotyping of new transgenic mouse models, the study of chronic disease models and the monitoring of changes in brain activity in long-term behavioral studies.

[Ab] Resumo:OBJECTIVES: We investigated the relationships among positivity, perceived personal and environmental resources, and emotional dysfunction in adolescent girls. We hypothesized that perceived resources would mediate the relationship between positivity and emotional dysfunction. METHODS: Participants (N = 510) attending an all-girls public school completed a survey assessing emotional dysfunction (depressive symptoms and perceived stress), positivity (positive/negative emotions), and personal/ environmental resources (resilience, hope, percent adaptive coping, community connectedness, social support, and school connectedness). Perceived resources were combined into one latent variable, and structural equation modeling tested the mediating effect of perceived resources on the relationship between positivity and emotional dysfunction. RESULTS: The model accounted for 63% of the variance in emotional dysfunction. Positivity exerted a significant direct effect on emotional dysfunction (ß = -.14, p < .01), but its influence was primarily mediated through perceived resources (indirect effect: ß = -.43, p < .001). CONCLUSIONS: The impact of positivity on emotional dysfunction is primarily but not entirely mediated by perceived personal and environmental resources. Schools should consider strategies to enhance experiences of positive emotions and/or decrease experiences of negative emotions, in conjunction with encouraging student awareness and development of personal and environmental resources.

[Ab] Resumo:BACKGROUND: Although developed for adults, the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-Short Version (DASS-21) has been used in many research studies with adolescent samples. Evidence as to the applicability of the DASS subscale scores to represent the distinct states of depression, anxiety, and stress as experienced by adolescents is mixed, and the age at which it may be possible to differentiate these 3 states using the DASS-21 has not yet been determined. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated evidence for a multifactor structure in the DASS-21 in adolescents and the specificity of the 3 subscales for adolescents in general and at different ages. METHOD: Data were from a large cross-sectional survey of 2,873 school students in Grades 6-12 (aged 12-18 years) in Australia. We conducted confirmatory bifactor analyses testing a general mental health distress factor and 3 domain-specific factors for anxiety, depression, and stress for the whole sample and across gender by age groups. The internal consistency reliability of the DASS total and subscale scores was determined using omega coefficients. RESULTS: Analyses identified that most of the variation in the items was explained by the dominance of a single, general factor and the subscales lacked specificity across all age groups. CONCLUSION: The DASS-21 can be reliably used to measure general distress in adolescents, but the subscales fail to discriminate between the 3 states. Our results indicate that this lack of discrimination does not reduce with increasing age. These findings caution against the use of adult theoretical models and measures within adolescent populations.
