[Ab] Resumo:PURPOSE: To perform the translation and cultural adaptation of the Aguado Syntax Test (AST) into Brazilian Portuguese considering the linguistic and cultural reality of the language. METHODS: The AST assesses the early morphosyntactic development in children aged 3 to 7 in terms of understanding and expression of various types of structures such as sentences, pronouns, verbal voices, comparisons, prepositions and verbal desinence as to number, mode and tense. The process of translation and cultural adaptation followed four steps: 1) preparation of two translations; 2) synthesis of consensual translations; 3) backtranslation; and 4) verification of equivalence between the initial translations and backtranslations that resulted in the final translated version. RESULTS: The whole process of translation and cultural adaptation revealed the presence of equivalence and reconciliation of the translated items and an almost complete semantic equivalence between the two translations and the absence of consistent translation difficulties. CONCLUSION: The AST was translated and culturally adapted into Brazilian Portuguese, constituting the first step towards validation and standardization of the test.

[Ab] Resumo:PURPOSE: Cross-cultural adaptation and translation of the Nijmegen Cochlear Implant Questionnaire (NCIQ) into Brazilian Portuguese and analysis of quality of life (QoL) results in adults with cochlear implant (CI). METHODS: The NCIQ instrument was translated into Brazilian Portuguese and culturally adapted. After that, a cross-sectional and clinical QoL evaluation was conducted with a group of 24 adults with CI. RESULTS: The questionnaire title in Brazilian Portuguese is 'Questionário Nijmegen de Implantes Cocleares' (NCIQ-P). The version of the NCIQ questionnaire translated into Brazilian Portuguese presented good internal consistency (0.78). The social and physical domains presented the highest scores, with the basic and advanced sound perception subdomains achieving the highest scores. No correlation between gender and time of device use was found for the questionnaire domains and subdomains. CONCLUSION: The cross-cultural adaptation and translation of the NCIQ into Brazilian Portuguese suggests that this instrument is reliable and useful for clinical and research purposes in Brazilian adults with CI.

[Ab] Resumo:Condyloma acuminata (CA) is a sexually transmitted disease that affects quality of life (QOL). CECA10 is an English-language questionnaire for assessing QOL in patients with CA, but there is no equivalent in China. This study aimed to develop a validated and reliable Chinese version of CECA10.The Chinese CECA10 was developed from the English version by forward translation, back translation, comparison with the original, cultural adjustments, and a pre-test (5 patients). The Chinese CECA10 and EuroQol Five Dimensions Three Level Questionnaire (EQ-5D-3L) was administered to patients with CA. Content validity (item/scale content validity indexes, I-CVI/S-CVI), test-retest reliability (intraclass coefficient, ICC), internal consistency (Cronbach α), criterion validity (comparison with the Dermatology Life Quality Index, DLQL, using Spearman correlation analysis), construct validity (exploratory factor analysis), and discriminant validity (between subgroups based on number of warts, number of recurrences, or number of sites involved) were assessed. The Chinese CECA10 had good test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.98, P < .001), internal consistency (Cronbach α values of 0.88, 0.84, and 0.83 for the total questionnaire, psychological dimension, and sexual dimension, respectively), content validity (I-CVI = 1 for all items), and criterion validity (r = -0.50, P < .001). Exploratory factor analysis extracted 2 factors with a cumulative contribution of 61.75%; the factor loading with each item was >0.4. Discriminant validity was not high. The mean CECA10 and EQ-VAS scores of 211 patients with CA (28.19 ±â€Š7.16 years; 139 males) were 34.56 ±â€Š19.01 and 64.64 ±â€Š19.28, respectively. The Chinese CECA10 has good reliability and validity for evaluating the QOL of Chinese patients with CA.

[Ab] Resumo:Subjective assessment tools are essential in voice disorders evaluation. The Voice Handicap Index-30 (VHI-30) and the Voice Handicap Index-10 (VHI-10) are the most studied and used questionnaires to assess the severity of the handicap caused by hoarseness on the quality of life of dysphonic patients and, therefore, guiding physician's therapeutic decision making. The aim of our study is to validate a Lebanese version of the VHI-10. The Lebanese Arabic version of the VHI-10 (VHI-10lb) was obtained after a forward translation towards Lebanese Arabic then a back-translation towards English and a pilot study. It was then submitted to 154 participants with clinical dysphonia and 100 healthy subjects. The questionnaire's intrinsic parameters such as the reliability, the reproducibility, the validity, the sensitivity, and the study of the correlation between each item and the total score were measured for the validation of the questionnaire. The results show a high internal consistency of the VHI-10lb (Cronbach's α 0.915) and an intra-class correlation coefficient of 0.963 in the reliability analysis (p < 0.001). The VHI-10lb is also found to be clinically valid (p < 0.001) and sensitive to the improvement of the quality of life after treatment of dysphonic patients (p < 0.001). The Lebanese version of the VHI-10, the VHI-10lb, can be used to self-assess the severity of the impact of dysphonia on the quality of life of the affected patients. This study allows to add the VHI-10lb to the voice evaluation tools adapted to the Lebanese population.

[Ab] Resumo:Objective: The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPS) was designed to assess staff views on patient safety culture in hospital. This study examines psychometrics of the Italian translation of the HSOPS for use in territorial prevention facilities. Design: After minimal adjustments and pre-test of the Italian version, a qualitative cross-sectional study was carried out. Setting: Departments of Prevention (DPs) of four Local Health Authorities in Northern Italy. Participants: Census of medical and non-medical staff (n. 479). Intervention: Web-based self-administered questionnaire. Main outcome measures: Descriptive statistics, internal reliability, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and intercorrelations among survey composites. Results: Initial CFA of the 12 patient safety culture composites and 42 items included in the original version of the questionnaire revealed that two dimensions (Staffing and Overall Perception of Patient Safety) and nine individual items did not perform well among Italian territorial Prevention staff. After dropping those composites and items, psychometric properties were acceptable (comparative fit index = 0.94; root mean square error of approximation = 0.04; standardized root mean square residual = 0.04). Internal consistency for each remaining composite met or exceeded the criterion 0.70. Intercorrelations were all statistically significant. Conclusions: Psychometric analyses provided overall support for 10 of the 12 initial patient safety culture composites and 33 of the 42 initial composite items. Although the original instrument was intended for US Hospitals, the Italian translation of the HSOPS adapted for use in territorial prevention facilities performed adequately in Italian DPs.

[Ab] Resumo:BACKGROUND: The Western Ontario Rotator Cuff Index (WORC) is a scale designed to evaluate the impact of rotator cuff (RC) disorders on patients' general quality of life. Our study aims to adapt the WORC for Chinese patients and to assess its reliability, validity, and responsiveness in Chinese patients with RC disorders. METHODS: First, we developed the Chinese version of the WORC (C-WORC) in a five-step procedure of translation and cross-cultural adaptation. Next, the recruiting patients finished all three rounds of scales of the C-WORC, the Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form 36 (SF-36), and the Oxford Shoulder score (OSS). Then we calculated Cronbach's alpha, the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC), Pearson's or Spearman's correlation coefficient (r or r ), the effect size (ES), and the standardized response mean (SRM) to evaluate the reliability, validity and responsiveness of the C-WORC, respectively. RESULTS: Overall, 124 patients with RC disorders successfully completed the first two rounds of the scales, and 108 patients completed the last round of the scales. Good or excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.872-0.954) was found in the overall scale and subscales of C-WORC, as well as good or excellent test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.828-0.961). Moderate or good correlations (r/r = 0.472-0.787) were obtained between the physical subscales of the C-WORC and the OSS and the physical subscales of SF-36; the results were also obtained for the emotions subscale of the C-WORC and the mental subscales of SF-36 (r/r = 0.520-0.713), which, adequately illustrated that good validity was included in the C-WORC. In addition, good responsiveness was also observed in the overall scale and subscales of the C-WORC (ES = 1.57-2.27, SRM = 1.52-2.28). CONCLUSIONS: The C-WORC scale is reliable, valid and responsible for the evaluation of Chinese-speaking patients with RC disorders and would be an effective instrument.
