[Ab] Resumo:Problems of hygienic reliability of the drinking water use in regions of the Russian Federation are observed in the article. The optimization of the water use was shown must be based on the bearing in mind of regional peculiarities of the shaping of water quality of groundwater and surface sources of the water use, taking into account of the effectiveness of regional water protection programs, programs for water treatment, coordination of the activity of economic entities and oversight bodies in the management of water quality on the basis of socio-hygienic monitoring. Regional problems requiring hygienic justification and accounting, include such issues as complex hydrological, hydrogeological, climatic and geographical conditions, pronouncement of the severity of anthropogenic pollution of sources of water supply, natural conditions of the shaping of water quality, efficiency of the water treatment. There is need in the improvement of the problems of the water quality monitoring, including with the use of computer technology, which allows to realize regional hygienic monitoring and spatial-temporal analysis of the water quality, to model the water quality management, to predict conditions of the water use by population in regions taking into account peculiarities of the current health situation. In the article there is shown the practicability of the so-called complex concept of multiple barriers suggesting the combined use of chemical oxidation and physical methods of the preparation of drinking water. It is required the further development of legislation for the protection of water bodies from pollution with the bigging up the status of sanitary protection zones; timely revision of the regulatory framework, establishing sanitary-epidemiological requirements to potable water and drinking water supply. The problem of the provision of the population with safe drinking water requires complex solution within the framework of the implementation of target programs adopted at the Federal and regional levels.

[Ab] Resumo:The aim of this work was to study the removal of Cu (II) and U (VI) ions from aqueous solutions by encapsulating magnetic Fe O nanoparticles into calcium alginate coated chitosan hydrochloride (CCM) hydrogel beads. ATR-FTIR and XRD analysis data indicated that the CCM composites were successfully prepared. SEM images and EDX spectra showed that Cu and UO ions were adhered onto sorbents. Adsorption properties for removal of both copper and uranium ions under various experimental conditions were investigated. Kinetic data and sorption equilibrium isotherms were also conducted in batch process. The sorption kinetic analysis revealed that sorption of Cu (II) and U (VI) followed the pseudo-second-order model well and exhibited 3-stage intraparticle diffusion model during the whole sorption process. Equilibrium data were best described by Langmuir model, and the CCM composite hydrogel beads showed the estimated maximum adsorption capacity 143.276mg/g and 392.692mg/g for Cu (II) and U (VI), respectively. The CCM adsorbent exhibited excellent reusability for five cycles use without significant changes in the adsorption capacity and structural stability. The results demonstrated that CCM can be an effective and promising sorbent for Cu (II) and U (VI) ions in wastewater.

[Ab] Resumo:This study investigated the adsorption characteristics of Copper (â…¡), Zinc (â…¡) and Mercury (â…¡) by immobilized Flammulina velutipes, Auricularia polytricha, Pleurotus eryngii and Pleurotus ostreatus residues. Lagergren model, elovich and intraparticle diffusion model were used to present the adsorption kinetics, and it was proved that Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second order kinetics are the best suitable model with high correlation coefficient to characterize the adsorption process of Copper (â…¡), Zinc (â…¡) and Mercury (â…¡). The results showed that adsorption process finished in 120min at pH 6.0. The adsorption rate of Cu , Zn and Hg were reached to 53.8-84.1% of total in the initial 60min, and finished in 120min. Ion exchange and complexation of F. velutipes were the main mechanisms for adsorption of metal ions by characterizations of Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). In addition the functional group of cell walls such as hydroxyl, amide, carbonyl, phosphoric played a critical role in ions adsorption of edible mushroom residues. Cu , Zn and Hg in wastewater could be efficiently removed by F. velutipes residue with removal ratio of 73.11%, 66.67% and 69.35%, respectively.

[Ab] Resumo:The adsorption behavior of tetracycline (TCN), doxycycline (DCN) as the most common antibiotics in veterinary and ciprofloxacin (CPN) onto graphene oxide nanosheets (GOS) in aqueous solution was evaluated. The four factors influencing the adsorption of antibiotics (initial concentration, pH, temperature and contact time) were studied. The results showed that initial pH ∼ 6 to 7 and contact time ∼ 100 - 200min are optimum for each drug. The monolayer adsorption capacity was reduced with the increasing temperature from 25°C to 45°C. Non-linear regressions were carried out in order to define the best fit model for every system. To do this, eight error functions were applied to predict the optimum model. Among various models, Hill and Toth isotherm models represented the equilibrium adsorption data of antibiotics while the kinetic data were well fitted by pseudo second-order (PSO) kinetic model (DCN and TCN) and Elovich (CPN) models. The maximum adsorption capacity (q ) is found to be in the following order: CPN >> DCN > TCN, obtained from sips equation at the same temperature. The GOS shows highest adsorption capacity towards CPN up to 173.4mgg . The study showed that GOS can be removed more efficiently from water solution.

[Ab] Resumo:Present study deals with the isolation and characterization of a bacterium capable for the effective reduction of Cr(VI) from tannery wastewater. Based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, this bacterium was identified as Cellulosimicrobium sp. (KX710177). During the Cr(VI) reduction experiment performed at 50, 100, 200,and 300mg/L of Cr(VI) concentrations, the bacterium showed 99.33% and 96.98% reduction at 50 and 100mg/L at 24 and 96h, respectively. However, at 200 and 300mg/L concentration of Cr(VI), only 84.62% and 62.28% reduction was achieved after 96h, respectively. The SEM analysis revealed that bacterial cells exposed to Cr(VI) showed increased cell size in comparison to unexposed cells, which might be due to either the precipitation or adsorption of reduced Cr(III) on bacterial cells. Further, the Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis showed some chromium peaks for cells exposed to Cr(VI), which might be either due to the presence of precipitated reduced Cr(III) on cells or complexation of Cr(III) with cell surface molecules. The bacterium also showed resistance and sensitivity against the tested antibiotics with a wide range of MIC values ranging from 250 to 800mg/L for different heavy metals. Thus, this multi-drug and multi-metal resistant bacterium can be used as a potential agent for the effective bioremediation of metal contaminated sites.

[Ab] Resumo:Batch sorption and leaching of arsenic (1-30mgL ) on Fe-sericite composite powder and beads were investigated in this study. Fe-sericite composite powder was made from natural sericite modified with iron, and alginate was used to transform the powder into beads. The maximum sorption capacities of the Fe-sericite composite powder (15.04 and 13.21mgg for As(III) and As(V), respectively) were higher than those of the corresponding beads (9.02 and 7.11mgg for As(III) and As(V), respectively) owing to the higher specific surface area of the powder. In addition, the leaching amounts of As(III) from Fe-sericite composite beads (≤ 15.03%) were higher than those of the corresponding powder (≤ 5.71%). However, acute toxicity of As(III)-sorbed Fe-sericite composite beads toward Daphnia magna was not significantly different from that of the corresponding powder (p > 0.05). Considering higher uptake of the powder particles by the daphnids, Fe-sericite composite beads seem to be a more appropriate and safer sorbent for arsenic removal in practical application. Based on Fe content, Fe-sericite composite beads had similar or higher maximum sorption capacities (71.19 and 56.11mgg Fe for As(III) and As(V), respectively) than those of previously reported sorbents.

[Ab] Resumo:With the development of psychiatric disorder in the current society, abuse of antidepressant drug fluoxetine (FLX) has made such compound an emerging contaminant in natural waters, and causes endocrine systems disturbance on some aquatic species. Herein, an efficient advanced oxidation process (AOP), electron beam irradiation was carried out to investigate the decomposition characteristics of such novel environmental pollutant, including the effects of initial concentration, pH, radical scavengers and anions. The results showed that FLX degradation followed pseudo-first-order kinetics. The degradation rate and dose constant decreased with increasing initial FLX concentration; and G-values elevated with the increase of initial concentration but reduced with increase of absorbed dose. Acidic condition was more conducive to FLX destruction than neutral and alkaline. The radical scavenger experiments indicated OH was the main reactive species for the decomposition of FLX, while the reductive species e and H played an adjuvant role. The presence of anions slightly decreased or even no impact on FLX degradation rate. Various water matrices influenced degradation processes of FLX. Experimental results suggested radiolytic degradation showed the best performance in pure water rather than natural water no matter with filtration or not. Moreover, with the occurrence of defluorination and dealkylation during degradation process, some organic and inorganic intermediates were detected, and the possible degradation mechanisms and pathways of FLX were proposed.

[Ab] Resumo:To exploit the adsorption capacity of commercial powdered activated carbon (PAC) and to improve the efficiency of Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions, the adsorption of Cr(VI) by commercial PAC and the countercurrent two-stage adsorption (CTA) process was investigated. Different adsorption kinetics models and isotherms were compared, and the pseudo-second-order model and the Langmuir and Freundlich models fit the experimental data well. The Cr(VI) removal efficiency was >80% and was improved by 37% through the CTA process compared with the conventional single-stage adsorption process when the initial Cr(VI) concentration was 50 mg/L with a PAC dose of 1.250 g/L and a pH of 3. A calculation method for calculating the effluent Cr(VI) concentration and the PAC dose was developed for the CTA process, and the validity of the method was confirmed by a deviation of <5%.

In this study, the potential impact of such micropollutants on the bacterial population within aerobic granular sludge (AGS) bioreactor was investigated. The AGS bacterial community structure and composition were accessed combining DGGE fingerprinting and barcoded pyrosequencing analysis. Both revealed the existence of a dynamic bacterial community, independently of the pharmaceuticals presence. The AGS microbiome at both phylum and class levels varied over time and, after stopping pharmaceuticals feeding, the bacterial community did not return to its initial composition. Nevertheless, most of the assigned OTUs were present throughout the different operational phases. This core microbiome, represented by over 72% of the total sequences in each phase, probably played an important role in biological removal processes, avoiding their failure during the disturbance period. Quantitative-PCR revealed that pharmaceuticals load led to gradual changes on the abundance of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) and polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAO) but their persistence during that phase demonstrated the resilience of such bacterial groups. AGS microbiome changed over time but a core community was maintained, probably ensuring the accomplishment of the main biological removal processes.

[Ab] Resumo:In this paper, the antibacterial activity of titanium dioxide modified with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was presented. TiO /rGO photocatalysts were prepared by the hydrothermal method under elevated pressure at 180°C and heated at 100°C in Ar flow. The obtained photocatalysts were characterized by means of XRD, FTIR/DRS, UV-vis/DR, Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The carbon content was also examined. FTIR/DRS and Raman analysis confirmed the presence of rGO in the TiO structure, suggesting a successful modification. The antimicrobial photoactivity of photocatalysts was conducted against E. coli under an artificial solar light. The results show that all TiO /rGO photocatalysts exhibited an antibacterial activity higher than unmodified TiO . The best result was found for sample with 1.5wt% additive of reduced graphene oxide. In this case, total inactivation of E. coli was noticed after 75min of irradiation. It was found that the presence of rGO in sample improves the antimicrobial activity.
