[Ab] Resumo:AIM: To improve the methods of simultaneous laparoscopy and hysteroscopy for the diagnosis and treatment of various forms of secondary infertility. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 420 women with various forms of infertility were examined and treated at the Caspian Hospital (Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology). Patients were divided into three groups: tubal-peritoneal infertility - 212 women, different forms of endometriosis - 113 patients, polycystic ovarian disease - 95 women. We proposed safer method of laparoscopic surgery. RESULTS: There were no injuries of internal organs and bleeding from the puncture site if Veress needle and the first 'blind' trocar were deployed according to proposed method. We consider that choice of operative hysteroscopy technique should be differentiated in case of benign gynecological diseases. Anesthesia-free operative hysteroscopy by S. Bettocchi may be performed if diagnostic hysteroscopy is tolerable. Simultaneous laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are safe for patients.

[Ab] Resumo:AIM: To assess efficacy and safety of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in patients with liver cirrhosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 46 patients with liver cirrhosis Child-Pugh class A and B underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy for the period from August 2001 to December 2015. Indications for surgery were acute calculous cholecystitis in 21 (45.6%) patients and chronic calculous cholecystitis in 25 (54.4%) patients. RESULTS: Mean surgery time was 75 minutes. Conversion to open surgery was required in 2 patients. Postoperative complications including bleeding, liver dysfunction, ascites, wound complications were observed in 11 (23.9%) patients. There were no deaths. Mean hospital-stay time was 2.5 days. CONCLUSION: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy may be successfully performed in carefully selected patients with compensated cirrhosis. The advantages of minimally invasive technique are less blood loss, surgery time and hospital-stay.

[Ab] Resumo:BACKGROUND: A systematic literature review was performed to investigate the occurrence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) in prisons located in countries formerly part of the Soviet Union. METHODS: A systematic search of published studies reporting MDR TB occurrence in prisons located in former Soviet countries was conducted by probing PubMed and Cumulative Index Nursing and Allied Health Literature for articles that met predetermined inclusion criteria. RESULTS: Seventeen studies were identified for systematic review. Studies were conducted in six different countries. Overall, prevalence of MDR TB among prisoners varied greatly between studies. Our findings suggest a high prevalence of MDR TB in prisons of Post-Soviet states with percentages as high as 16 times more than the worldwide prevalence estimated by the WHO in 2014. CONCLUSION: All studies suggested a high prevalence of MDR TB in prison populations in Post-Soviet states.

[Ab] Resumo:This study explores the application of spatial modelling techniques to generate susceptibility maps for a neglected zoonotic disease, visceral leishmaniasis (VL), in an endemic area in southern Caucasus that includes Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The social and physical environment of southern Caucasus has been mainly characterized by the presence of several factors that are strongly associated with VL, which has caused a significant number of infections during the past decade. Three popular spatial modelling techniques, consisting of the weights of evidence, logistic regression and fuzzy logic methods, were evaluated and trained using a study area in north-western Iran where an inventory of highly infected areas and high-quality evidential factors was available. Model performance was assessed using the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) approach. According to the results of these assessments, the fuzzy logic method with γ = 0.5 was chosen for the prediction of VL incidence in southern Caucasus. The susceptibility map generated using the fuzzy logic method indicated that VL followed a spatial pattern at the conjunction of the three countries, which suggests that the prevalence of VL in southern Caucasus is socio-ecologically dependent.

[Ab] Resumo:Gerodermia osteodysplastica is a recessive segmental progeroid disorder mainly characterized by wrinkled skin, generalized connective tissue weakness, infantile onset osteoporosis and normal intelligence. Coding mutations in GORAB, localized on chromosome 1q24.2, are the cause of this disease. 1q24 deletions underlie a spectrum of disorders with intellectual disability and ear abnormalities as phenotypic hallmarks. Here we report on an individual from Azerbaijan originating from a non-consanguineous couple showing short stature, cutis laxa, frequent fractures, facial dysmorphism, cup-shaped ears and intellectual disability. Sanger sequencing of GORAB revealed the seemingly homozygous missense mutation p.Ser175Phe. This mutation was detected in a heterozygous state in the clinically unaffected mother, but was absent in the healthy father. We performed copy-number investigations by high-resolution array-CGH and PCR approaches and found an ~6 Mb de novo deletion spanning 1q23.3-q24.2 in the affected boy. This novel combination of genetic defects very well explains the phenotype that goes beyond the usual presentation of gerodermia osteodysplastica. Our data provide new insight into the phenotypic spectrum of 1q23-q25 deletions and shows that the combination with another pathogenic allele can lead to more severe clinical manifestations.

[Ab] Resumo:BACKGROUND: The importance of consuming fruits and vegetables (F&V) in prevention of chronic diseases is known. Childhood play an important role in formation of healthy eating habits. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of education, with application of the theory of planned behavior, on improvement of F&V consumption. METHODS: In this quasi-experimental study, 184 fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade students participated were enrolled from Jan 2013 to Jun 2014. The samples were selected from 6 schools in Chalderan County, West Azerbaijan, Iran through cluster random sampling method. Two out of 6 schools were randomly selected and each was employed in either experimental or control group. The data collection instruments included a researcher-made questionnaire and a 24-h F&V recall. Data were collected after verification of the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. RESULTS: Before the intervention, no significant difference was observed between the intervention and control group regarding attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, behavioral intention and fruits and vegetables consumption (P>0.05). However, after the educational intervention, the mean scores of attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, behavioral intention variables and fruits and vegetables were significantly higher in the intervention group when compared to the control group(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Increased behavioral intention, attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control can promote F&V consumption among the students.

[Ab] Resumo:A revision of the genus Odocnemis of Turkey, the Caucasus and Iran is presented. Thirty species and four subspecies are distributed in this territory. The following 20 new species and subspecies are described: O. dichroa sp. n., O. allardi sp. n., O. merkli sp. n., O. seducta sp. n., O. aegaeica sp. n., O. euritopica sp. n., O. subtuberculigera sp. n., O. subtuberculigera thracica subsp. n., O. erseni sp. n., O. molecularica sp. n., O. shokhini sp. n., O. inornata sp. n., O. altimontana sp. n., O. amanosica sp. n., O. cordiformis sp. n., O. kakunini sp. n. O. evestigata sp. n., O. torosica sp. n., O. torosica subangulata subsp. n., Odocnemis hakkariensis sp. n. The name of the genus is feminine, therefore all species names are transformed from masculine to feminine. Almost all new taxa are described from Turkey; O. amanosica sp. n. is additionally recorded from Syria, O. allardi sp. n.-from Armenia, Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan) and Iran, O. kakunini sp. n. from Iran. New synonymies are established: Odocnemis anatolica (Pic, 1899) = Stenomax korbi Reitter 1902: 219, syn.n.; Odocnemis recticollis (Allard, 1877) = Stenomax kurdistanus Reitter, 1902: 221, syn.n.; Odocnemis punctata Allard, 1876 = Cylindronotus (Odocnemis) pseudoclarus Reitter, 1922, syn.n. The following lectotypes are designated: Helops (Odocnemis) anatolicus Pic, 1899, Helops (Stenomax) seriegranatus Seidlitz, 1896, Cylindronotus (Odocnemis) opertus Reitter, 1922, Stenomax recticollis Allard, 1876, Odocnemis punctata Allard, 1876, Helops (Odocnemis) protinus Reitter in Bodemeyer, 1900. Holotypes and paratypes of all other Turkish species of Odocnemis are studied. Two new combinations are established: Odocnemis gloriosa (Faldermann, 1837), comb. n. (from Nalassus Mulsant, 1854) and Odocnemis terminasianae (Nabozhenko, 2011), comb. n. (from Armenohelops Nabozhenko, 2002). Five species O. bosphoranus (Allard, 1876), O. amasiae (Seidlitz, 1896), O. scutellatus (Reitter, 1902), O. fundator (Reitter, 1908), O. strangulatus (Reitter, 1922)) are not revised in this work and will be included in the genus Armenohelops in a future revision. Three species which were previously recorded from Turkey erroneously (O. exarata (Germar, 1817), O. crenatostriata (Allard, 1877), O. caudata Allard, 1876) should be removed from the Turkish list. Eight species-groups are characterized in the paper. The following aspects are considered and discussed: classification of the genus, morphology and main evolutionary tendencies, distribution and bionomics. A key to the Turkish, Caucasian and Iranian species of    Odocnemis is given.

[Ab] Resumo:The study of the health shaping environment of students is one of the actual biomedical tasks, it is also the scientific founding for conducting health-preventive and health-preserving measures. Despite the importance of the proposed problem, this study is a pioneering attempt in Nagorno Karabakh. The objective of the work is the scientific grounding of regional peculiarities and the contemporary level of health shaping environment of students on the basis of population monitoring system. The results of the study prove that the studied health criteria are within limits of physiological norm. The most wide-spead risk factors are lack of physical activity, in the group of young boys - also tobacco use and alcohol consumption. The analysis of daily diet of examinees attests ''fat'' nutrition model. The data on the impact of physical effort reveal high tension in the cardiac activity in the group of physically untrained students. The study of the impact of educational and mental strain on the functional state of the organism of the students revealed that daily academic leads to fatigue. The examination session is characterized by strongly expressed sympatotonia sympathicotonia, mental strain - by parasympatotonia. The obtained results point to the necessity of the enhanced control in preserving and strengthening the health of the younger generation considering the above-brought regional peculiarities.
