RESUMO
A recent editorial of the Bulletin of the Chilean Epilepsy Group discussed the potential appications of "telemedicine" in the field of neurology and epilepsy. We would like to comment on one of them, the Internet. This is a complex digital communication network that has become a popular and increasingly used tool amongs Chilean physicians over the last five years. It has allowed medical literature searches, the creation of specific discussion groups, electronic conferences and mailing, as well as opened interesting commercial pathways to enhance our medical resources. Furthermore, it made possible to acces important specialized medical databases and journals, and to consult prestigious medical centers abroad. The equipment required and the operational costs are modest compared to the tremendous potential available to us by using World Wide Web. However, its use has to be focused to avoid wasting our time by pointlessly surfing the net.
