Resumo: A comparative study was undertaken to look into the specific energy consumption and CO2 emission during the manufacturing of stoneware, concrete, reinforced concrete, corrosion-resistant reinforced concrete, cast iron, PV, and PE-HD sewers. The studies were carried out for a pipe run including sealings with a nominal diameter of ND100 to ND500. Depending on nominal pipe widths and their useful lives a different sequence of the various materials was found. Within the framework of an overall ecological energy balance, a non-polluting utilization of the sewers to be disposed of was also taken into account. Through comparisons with the physical threshold energies the potential for savings for the different materials is established and discussed
